The Treasure of Central America

The Treasure of Central America

Happy Independence Day to all my Central American brothers and sisters! We celebrate this occasion with great joy and patriotic spirit regardless of the country. Each of our countries and region faces challenging times, which can sometimes overwhelm us and make us forget the beauty of our homeland. That's why, in this piece, I want us to take a journey through Central America, highlighting the beauty of each country.

Belize:

We start with a Kriol phrase that captures the Belizean essence: "Un barril de llenado de craboo" – Every little detail counts. When you visit Belize, the locals greet you with a big, friendly smile, and they'll always say hello no matter where you go. Thanks to its natural beauty, Belize is the perfect place to escape from the digital and daily grind. Everyone you meet is like an open book filled with exciting stories as fascinating as the Kriol culture that lives in every corner. And during events, you get to experience something truly unique. It's no wonder we call Belize "The Jewel."

Guatemala:

A Guatemalan saying we should all live by is, "We all have a bit of the poet, musician, and madman in us." Guatemala is a country where the old and the new coexist harmoniously. Whether you enjoy exploring or dancing, Guatemala has it all. There are even places where you can walk into a bookstore and find yourself in a bohemian setting. But beyond the architecture, Guatemala boasts such a diversity of flora that one day, you may feel as if you're one with nature in a dense fog-covered forest, and the next, you're in the beauty of a desert oasis. That's why Guatemala is known as "The Land of Eternal Spring."

El Salvador:

A phrase Salvadorans live by is "Keep smiling through the tough times," which reflects their hardworking and resilient spirit. In El Salvador, you can experience everything from waves to volcanoes and also the chance to explore cities that tell the stories of the past as if you were living them today. Salvadorans are known for their warmth and passion for what they do. Thanks to its beautiful landscapes and the kindness of its people, we call El Salvador "The Land of Diamonds." Wherever you go, whatever you visit, and whoever you meet, you're sure to spot diamonds all around.

Honduras:

In Honduras, there's a saying: "As happy as a dog with two tails," expressing immense joy. Hondurans are known for their joyful and welcoming nature. Whether you're a local or international visitor, no matter how long you stay, the Honduran spirit of hospitality will embrace you. In some places, you'll need to arrive with an empty stomach because they'll feed and drink you until you can't take any more, and they'll even give you something to take home. You can't forget the hot springs or the archaeological sites that tell the story of the "Heart of Central America."

Nicaragua:

Nicaraguans have a saying that encapsulates their warm hospitality: "Do good without looking at whom," their hospitality is as warm as their tropical climate. Nicaragua boasts two oceans and several volcanoes, and when you mix these with their traditions, you get the perfect recipe for an unforgettable adventure—almost like a utopia. Take Corn Island as an example, where you have beaches, traditions, and adventure all in one place. That's why we call Nicaragua the "Land of Lakes and Volcanoes." What better way to capture the adventures this land offers?

Costa Rica:

A common saying in Costa Rica is, "For a sample, just a button will do," meaning you can get a good idea from a small glimpse. And what better way to capture the essence of Costa Rica than with the phrase "Pura Vida!" Costa Rica is filled with a vast diversity of flora and fauna, from sloth sanctuaries and volcanoes to multicolored frogs and beaches. The Costa Rican motto, Pura Vida, embodies the cheerful, laid-back, and kind-hearted nature of its people and the vibrant environment. That's why we call Costa Rica "The Green and Happy Country."

Panama:

What better way to get to know Panama and its beauty than through the saying "Take a dip in the local culture," the best way to combine Panamanian hospitality and cultural diversity. The people have an incredible ability to unite individuals from all walks of life and make them feel part of the community. Panama's tropical climate and lively rhythm are so infectious that it's impossible not to catch the spirit. Panama is a country of authentic people where cultures converge, and the experience goes far beyond the destination. That's why we call Panama the "Melting Pot of Races."

Happy Independence Day, my Central American brothers and sisters! No matter our country, hospitality will always be a vital and distinctive pillar of us Central Americans. Each country has its unique qualities, yet we all share a familiar cultural richness, warmth, and generosity.

Finally, as we commemorate these national holidays, let us rejoice in the freedom we have to celebrate our homeland. But let's also remember that freedom comes with a structure, essential for our region's growth and sustainable development.

Satoricha ~

Satoricha

Satoricha, the mysterious cat with a hat, is a figure that few have truly met, but many wonder who he really is... or if he even exists at all. Some claim to have seen him among the tea leaves at dusk, while others believe he’s just a legend tied to old stories of hospitality and shared moments. Yet, his presence is unmistakable: elegant, curious, and always one step ahead. No one knows exactly where he came from or what he seeks, but those who cross paths with him can’t help but feel there’s more behind that feline gaze and his hat full of secrets.
